My Top 5 Most Slept on Underground Artists
You can hate me now, but I won’t stop now and neither will these artists. I know your probably wrapped up in your overrated Drake to even consider some hip hop artists out the norm, but I am telling you, hip hop isn’t dead-your just not looking for it. Enter, this list that I have compiled for you -because I love you guys that much- my Top Five Most Slept on Underground Artists in no particular order of course. So stop sleeping and wake that ass up!
1. BRKF$T CLUB: The seven many group also known as the 2008ighties crew from Chicago, seem to be very promising. Each of them having their own unique style to bring to the table. I know I have been bumping Calez’s mixtape Is Calez Famous Yet? myself. This group reminds me of The Neptunes mixed in with some Cool Kidz. I just hope this promise is one that is left unbroken.
2. PHONY PPL: There is something about a live band, thoughtful lyrics and smooth singing that touches my soul. Yes, there are nine people in this group and yes, you are experiencing an eargasm. As Kobe Bryant would say “,You’re welcome.”
3. Kendrick Lamar: I don’t understand why he isn’t on top right now. Though provoking lyrics….check. Amazing gift of free styling…check. Own personal style…check. Impeccable production..check. I can’t fathom it. Well, he is definitely making a name for himself and will be on the top of the game soon enough. I give him three months.
4. MF DOOM: Maybe it’s my generation. Maybe its the people I seem to hang around, but why are people sleeping on him? He’s been out for years! I don’t get it. I simply don’t get it. It’s art people.
5.Skewby: I don’t know what it is that makes me like this memphis, TN rapper so much. Is it because he produces his own songs and directs his own videos? Hell, I don’t know. Maybe you can tell me.
Honorable Mention:
Oddissee: A producer and MC from Mello Music Group. He will be performing at A3C this year. Things are looking good for him.I love this track.
Now, don’t get your panties all in a bunch, there are plenty of people that I left out. So feel free to post who you think should be added or bash my picks.
Either or…it doesn’t matter to me.
